Gently Raise the Sacred Strain,
146 - William W. Phelps. Included in the first LDS hymnbook,
1835.
- Gently
raise the sacred strain, For the Sabbath's come again
That man may rest, That man may rest, And return his thanks to God
For his blessings to the blest, For his blessings to the blest.
- Holy
day, devoid of strife-- Let us seek eternal life,
That great reward, That great reward, And partake the sacrament
In remembrance of our Lord, In remembrance of our Lord.
- Sweetly
swells the solemn sound While we bring our gifts around
Of broken hearts, Of broken hearts, As a willing sacrifice,
Showing what his grace imparts, Showing what his grace imparts.
- Holy,
holy is the Lord. Precious, precious is his word:
Repent and live, Repent and live; Tho your
sins be crimson red,
Oh, repent, and he'll forgive. Oh, repent, and he'll forgive.

Glorious Things Are Sung of Zion,
48 - William W. Phelps
- Glorious
things are sung of Zion, Enoch's city seen of old,
Where the righteous, being perfect, Walked with God in streets of gold.
Love and virtue, faith and wisdom, Grace and gifts were all combined.
As himself each loved his neighbor; All were one in heart and mind.
- There
they shunn'd the pow'r
of Satan And observed celestial laws;
For in Adam-ondi-Ahman
Zion rose where Eden was.
When beyond the pow'r of evil, So that none
could covet wealth,
One continual feast of blessings Crown'd their
days with peace and health.
- Then
the tow'rs of Zion glittered Like the sun in
yonder skies,
And the wicked stood and trembled, Filled with wonder and surprise.
Then their faith and works were perfect; Lo, they followed their great
Head!
So the city went to heaven, And the world said, "Zion's fled!"
- When
the Lord returns with Zion, And we hear the watchman cry,
Then we'll surely be united, And we'll all see eye to eye.
Then we'll mingle with the angels, And the Lord will bless his own.
Then the earth will be as Eden, And we'll know as we are known.

Glorious Things of Thee Are Spoken,
46 - John Newton. Included in the first LDS hymnbook, 1835.
- Glorious
things of thee are spoken, Zion, city of our God!
He whose word cannot be broken Chose thee for his own abode.
on the Rock of Ages founded, What can shake our sure repose?
With salvation's wall surrounded, Thou may'st
smile on all thy foes.
- See!
the streams of living waters, Springing from celestial love,
Well supply thy sons and daughters And all fear of drought remove.
Round each habitation hov'ring, See the cloud
and fire appear
For a glory and a cov'ring, Showing that the
Lord is near.
- Blest
inhabitants of Zion, Purchased by the Savior's blood;
Jesus, whom their souls rely on, Makes them kings and priests to God.
While in love his Saints he raises With himself to reign as King,
All, as priests, his solemn praises For thank-off'rings
freely bring.

Glory to God on High,
67 - James Allen, alt.
- Glory
to God on high! Let heav'n and earth reply.
Praise ye his name.
His love and grace adore, Who all our sorrows bore. Sing aloud evermore:
Worthy the Lamb!
- Jesus,
our Lord and God, Bore sin's tremendous load. Praise ye his name.
Tell what his arm has done, What spoils from death he won. Sing his
great name alone: Worthy the Lamb!
- Let
all the hosts above Join in one song of love, Praising his name.
To him ascribed be Honor and majesty Thru all eternity: Worthy the Lamb!

Go, Ye Messengers of Glory, 262 -
John Taylor
1. Go, ye messengers of
glory; Run, ye legates of the skies.
Go and tell the pleasing story That a glorious angel flies,
Great and might, Great and mighty, With a message from the
skies.
2. Go to every tribe
and nation; Visit ev'ry land and clime.
Sound to all the proclamation; Tell to all the truth sublime:
That the gospel, That the gospel Does in ancient glory shine.
3. Go, to all the
gospel carry; Let the joyful news abound.
Go till ev'ry nation hear you, Jew
and Gentile greet the sound.
Let the gospel, Let the gospel Echo all the earth around.
4. Bearing seed of heav'nly virtue, Scatter it o'er all the earth. Go!
Jehovah will support you; Gather all the sheaves of worth.
Then, with Jesus, Then, with Jesus Reign in glory on the
earth.

Go, Ye Messengers of Heaven (Men), 327 - John
Taylor
1. Go, ye messenger of
heaven, Chosen by divine command.
Go and publish free salvation To a dark, benighted land.
2. Go to island, vale,
and mountain; There fulfill the great command;
Gather out the sons of Jacob To possess the promised land.
3. When your thousands
all are gathered, And their prayers for you ascend,
And the Lord has crowned with blessings All the labors of your
hand,
4. Then the song of joy
and transport Will from ev'ry land resound;
Then the nations long in darkness By the Savior will be
crowned.

God Be with You Till We Meet Again,
152 - Jeremiah E. Rankin
- God
be with you till we meet again; By his counsels guide, uphold you;
With his sheep securely fold you. God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet, Till we meet at Jesus' feet,
Till we meet, till we meet, God be with you till we meet again.
- God
be with you till we meet again; When life's perils thick confound you,
Put his arms unfailing round you. God be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet, Till we meet at Jesus' feet,
Till we meet, till we meet, God be with you till we meet again.
- God
be with you till we meet again; Keep love's banner floating o'er you;
Smite death's threat'ning wave before you. God
be with you till we meet again.
Till we meet, till we meet, Till we meet at Jesus' feet,
Till we meet, till we meet, God be with you till we meet again.

God Bless Our Prophet Dear,
24 - Bernard Snow
1. God bless our
prophet dear; May health and comfort cheer
His noble heart. His words with fire impress
On souls that thou wilt bless To choose in righteousness
The better part.
2. So shall thy kingdom
spread, As by thy prophets said,
From sea to sea. Truth burns in ev'ry
soul;
As one united whole, We hasten to the goal
We long to see.
3. Oh, may thy Saints
be one, Like Father and the Son,
Nor disagree. United heart and hand,
So may we ever stand, A firm and valiant band
Eternally.

God Is in His Holy Temple,
132 - Anonymous, Hymns of the Spirit, 1864.
- God
is in his holy temple. Earthly thoughts be silent now,
While with rev'rence we assemble And before
his presence bow.
He is with us, now and ever, When we call upon his name,
Aiding ev'ry good endeavor, Guiding ev'ry upward aim.
- God
is in his holy temple, in the pure and holy mind,
In the rev'rent heart and simple, In the soul
from sin refined.
Banish then each base emotion. Lift us up, O Lord, to thee;
Let our souls, in pure devotion, Temples for thy worship be.

God Is Love,
87 - Thomas R. Taylor, alt. Included in the first LDS hynmbook, 1835.
- Earth,
with her ten thousand flow'rs, Air, with all
its beams and show'rs,
Heaven's infinite expanse, Sea's resplendent countenance--
All around and all above Bear this record: God is love.
- Sounds
among the vales and hills, In the woods and by the rills,
Of the breeze and of the bird, By the gentle murmur stirred--
Sacred songs, beneath, above, Have one chorus: God is love.
- All
the hopes that sweetly start From the fountain of the heart,
All the bliss that ever comes To our earthly human homes,
All the voices from above Sweetly whisper: God is love.

God Loved Us, So He Sent His Son,
187 - Edward P. Kimball
1. God loved us so he
sent his son, Christ Jesus, the atoning One,
To show us by the path he trod The one and only way to God.
2. He came as man,
though Son of God, And bowed himself beneath the rod.
He died in holy innocence, A broken law to recompense.
3. Oh, love effulgent,
love divine! What debt of gratitude is mine,
That in his off'ring I have part And
hold a place within his heart.
4. In word and deed he
doth require My will to his, like son to sire,
Be made to bend, and I, as son, Learn conduct from the Holy
One.
5. This sacrament doth
represent His blood and body for me spent.
Partaking now is deed for word That I remember him, my Lord.

God Moves in a Mysterious Way,
285 - William Cowper
- God
moves in a mysterious way His wonders to perform;
He plants his footsteps in the sea And rides upon the storm.
- Ye
fearful Saints, fresh courage take; The clouds ye so much dread
Are big with mercy and shall break In blessings on your head.
- His
purposes will ripen fast, Unfolding ev'ry
hour;
The bud may have a bitter taste, But sweet will be the flower.
- Blind
unbelief is sure to err And scan his works in vain;
God is his own interpreter, And he will make it plain.

God of Our Fathers, Known of Old,
80 - Rudyard
Kipling
1. God of our fathers,
known of old, Lord of our farflung battle line,
Beneath whose awful hand we hold Dominion over palm and pine:
Lord God of hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget, lest we
forget.
2. The tumult and the
shouting dies; The captains and the kings depart.
Still stands thine ancient
sacrifice, An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet, Lest we forget, lest we
forget.
3. Far-called, our
navies melt away; On dune and headland sinks the fire.
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the nations, spare us yet, Lest we forget, lest we
forget.
Verses from The Cyber Hymnal
God of our fathers, known of old,
Lord of our far flung battle line,
Beneath whose awful hand we hold
Dominion over palm and pine—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
The tumult and the shouting dies;
The captains and the kings depart:
Still stands Thine ancient sacrifice,
An humble and a contrite heart.
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
Far called, our navies melt away;
On dune and headland sinks the fire:
Lo, all our pomp of yesterday
Is one with Nineveh and Tyre!
Judge of the Nations, spare us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
If, drunk with sight of power, we loose
Wild tongues that have not Thee in awe,
Such boastings as the Gentiles use,
Or lesser breeds without the Law—
Lord God of Hosts, be with us yet,
Lest we forget—lest we forget!
For heathen heart that puts her trust
In reeking tube and iron shard,
All valiant dust that builds on dust,
And guarding, calls not Thee to guard,
For frantic boast and foolish word—
Thy mercy on Thy people, Lord!

shall increase,
Led by the priesthood along the bright way, Never from thee let us
stray!
Never! Never! Never from thee let us stray! Ever! Ever! Ever to thee
will we pray!
- Strengthened
by thee for the conflict with sin, Onward we'll press till life's battle
we'll win;
Then in thy glory forever we'll stay; Never from thee let us stray!
Never! Never! Never from thee let us stray! Ever! Ever! Ever to thee
will we pray!

God Speed the Right,
106 - William E. Hickson
- Now
to heav'n our prayer ascending, God speed the
right;
In a noble cause contending, God speed the right.
Be our zeal in heav'n recorded, With success
on earth rewarded.
God speed the right. God speed the right.
- Be
that prayer again repeated, God speed the right;
Ne'er despairing, though defeated, God speed the right.
Like the great and good in story, If we fail, we fail with glory.
God speed the right. God speed the right.
- Patient,
firm, and persevering, God speed the right;
No event nor danger fearing, God speed the right.
Pains, nor toils, nor trials heeding, And in heav'n's
good time succeeding.
God speed the right. God speed the right.

I enjoy the meanest place Within thy house, O God of grace,
No tents of ease or thrones of pow'r Should
tempt my feet to leave thy door.

is our sun; he makes our day. God is our shield; he guards our way
From all assaults of hell and sin, From foes without and fears within.
